1. Stauer Noire Bienne

Highlights
  • A luxurious timepiece that’s affordable
  • Golden-plated stainless steel build
  • Analog dial that’s easy to read
  • Illuminated hands and hour markers
Best For Low Budgets
Stauer - Men's Swiss Noire Bienne Gold Finished Watch

The exquisite-looking Stauer Noire Bienne combines the simplicity of an analog dial with beautiful and luxurious golden tones that make you think of sun and warmth.

The dial is black, which allows the golden hour markers and hands to be very visible. Also, both the hands and the hour markers are illuminated, for better vision in the dark or in low-light conditions.

The bezel is fixed and the crown is in the standard 3 o’clock position. There’s also a date complication, right in line with the crown, and the dial doesn’t feature anything else but the Stauer logo.

Overall, the Noire Bienne looks and feels like a luxurious timepiece, but it is very affordable for almost anyone. To keep the price low, the watch is made from durable golden stainless steel (both the case and the bracelet), and it has a fold-over clasp.

It’s also powered by a very reliable Swiss-made movement, the Crystal Ronda 505 Quartz.

Specifications

Stainless Steel (Case & Strap), Mineral Crystal Lens
Size:
36mm Case Diameter
Weight:
74g

Pros

  • The watch looks good with elegant outfits
  • Durable build, with premium materials
  • Good water resistance (90m/30ft)
  • Date complication

Cons

  • It’s a bit small
  • It can be heavy for its size

2. Stauer 1930 Dashtronic

Highlights
  • Beautiful & unique design (with a vintage style)
  • Comfortable to wear
  • Fits 7-8.5 inch wrists
  • Equipped with a Swiss Automatic movement

1930 Dashtronic is a celebration of an era of innovation and industrialization. The 1930s are regarded as the machine-age and many of today’s technologies have their roots trace back to this period.

But 1930 also had a strong impact on the watch industry as producers started experimenting with new cases and movements. One such experiment is a jumping mechanism complication, that uses numerals on a disc to tell the time. The idea was to implement the image of a mechanized dashboard (of the time) into a watch face.

The 1930 Dashtronic is not a jumping mechanism, but it does resemble one due to the unique-looking dial. Under the stainless steel cover, beats a 21-jewel Swiss Automatic movement, which you can see hard at work through the clear case back.

Overall, the design is unique without promoting antiquated technologies. In fact, the mechanism has a 3-ATM (30m/90ft) water resistance and comes with a beautiful black alligator-embossed leather.

Specifications

Material:
Stainless Steel Case, Leather Band, Mineral Crystal Lens
Size:
39mm Case Diameter x 22mm Band Width

Pros

  • Powered by a 21-jewel automatic movement
  • Comfortable leather strap
  • The design works nicely with both elegant and casual outfits
  • Good water resistance

Cons

  • The hands are not illuminated
  • There is no date window

3. Stauer Evergreen Diver

Highlights
  • Beautiful color combination
  • Durable stainless steel build
  • Affordable price for a luxurious look
  • Accurate precision movement

With a full stainless steel build (case, case back, crown, and band) the Evergreen Diver is a precision dive watch with an eye-catching green dial. It can withstand up to 20 ATM (660 feet or 200 meters) underwater and it has luminescent hands and hour indices (for good legibility in low light conditions). Furthermore, the crown is a screw-down model, to avoid any water from getting inside the mechanism.

The good news is that, even though this is an affordable timepiece, it looks like a Rolex! The stainless steel case and band, the unidirectional rotating bezel, and the beautiful color combination (golden, silver, and green) create a beautiful design that’s quite eye catching.

The beautiful green dial only has one date complication (in the 3 o’clock position) that’s placed in a magnified window, so it’s easy to see.

While it doesn’t have that many features, this timepiece, powered by a Precision 2115 movement, means business. It goes well with both casual and elegant outfits, and doesn’t shy away from a bit of water!

Specifications

Material:
Stainless Steel (Case and Strap), Mineral Crystal Lens
Size:
44mm Case Diameter, 19mm Band Width, 14mm Case Thickness

Pros

  • It looks amazing in both elegant and casual scenarios
  • The rotating bezel is a standard Diver watch feature
  • It resists to up to 200m underwater
  • The hands and hour markers are illuminated

Cons

  • The bezel gains some play (in time)
  • The bracelet could be better

4. Stauer Alta

Highlights
  • Elegant and expensive-looking design
  • Rectangular watch face
  • Good water resistance
  • It has an authentic ingot of gold in the center of the face
Best For Higher Budgets
Stauer - Men's Alta Swiss Movement Gold Ingot Watch

The Alta watch is another unique timepiece from Stauer, with a Greek-inspired design and a Swiss Quartz movement (Ronda 763). Furthermore, this timepiece is a true jewel, as it comes with 1 gram ingot of gold in the center of the face (the ingot of gold is actually issued by Credit Suisse, so you can be sure it’s genuine).

To complete the design, Alta also has a rose gold plated stainless steel and a brown, embossed leather strap. This time, the face is rectangular and the lens is made from Cotswald mineral crystal.

Overall, Alta looks a lot more expensive than it is, and it will boost any outfit (elegant or casual) to the next level. It’s also resistant (3 ATM water resistance) and has blued steel hands as a nice touch up to the design.

Specifications

Material:
Stainless Steel Case, Leather Strap, Cotswald Mineral Lens
Size:
28mm Case Diameter, 22mm Band Width, 6.9mm Case Thickness

Pros

  • Unique & luxurious design
  • Comfortable leather strap
  • Water-resistant for up to 30m
  • Accurate Swiss quartz movement

Cons

  • The time can be difficult to read
  • There is no lume on hands and hour markers

5. Stauer Bimini

Highlights
  • Vintage-looking design
  • Durable build with premium materials
  • Accurate quartz-powered movement
  • Two subdial complications
Best Overall
Stauer - Men's Bimini Watch

Inspired by the 1940s military watches, the Bimini makes you think about the simpler days when it was easier to go on a fishing trip with your friends. The cognac brown leather strap and burgundy dial with beautiful shades of red that change into the light reminds you of nice cocktails and cigars while chatting with old friends.

While it may be a bit on the vintage side, Bimini is a watch for young and active men. It goes well with both elegant and casual outfits, but it’s also durable (50m water resistance) and features two complications on the analog dial (one for the date and one for telling time in 24h format).

The watch is powered by a Precision crystal movement (quartz) and has three hands to tell the time. The two main hands are white, so they are easy to follow, while the second hand is thin and metallic.

Overall, Bimini is a wonderful timepiece for classy and stylish men. It looks expensive (even though it’s very affordable) and is powered by a very accurate and reliable quartz movement.

Specifications

Material:
Distressed Italian Leather Strap, Stainless Steel Case, Mineral Crystal Lens
Size:
42mm Case Diameter, 20mm Band Width, 14mm Case Thickness

Pros

  • The dial is easy to read
  • 12 and 24h formats
  • Date complication
  • Comfortable to wear for a long time

Cons

  • It can be difficult to tell the date on a first glance

Stauer Watch Buying Guide

Movement

When it comes to movements, Stauer is a brand that likes diversity. As such, their offer includes automatic, manual winding, quartz, and digital watches (smart models).

Still, most Stauer watches use Automatic or Quartz movements, usually made in Switzerland or Japan. Since the brand is very focused on quality and providing users with a fantastic experience their movements are premium quality, accurate, and reliable.

However, a Stauer automatic may be a bit less accurate than a Stauer Quartz (which is completely normal).

Design & Style

Based on the models we reviewed and other designs available on the market, it’s safe to say that Stauer is a brand of elegant and stylish timepieces. Whether it’s an analog watch or a digital one, the timepiece will always be designed to look and feel good on your wrist.

For instance, a Stauer hybrid watch doesn’t have the bulkiness that most watches in this category have. The same happens for their sports collection, where watches are designed with fine lines and interesting material and color combinations.

Stauer Watch Prices

Since the brand dedicated their work to creating affordable watches that look expensive, it’s safe to say that their prices are not high. Most of their timepieces fit in the under $200 price tag, but there are some models that go over $300+.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where are Stauer watches made?
A:

Some of the Stauer watches are made entirely in Switzerland while others are made in the People’s Republic of China (they have a factory in Hong Kong). However, many models produced in China are equipped with a Swiss-made or Japanese-made movement. As such, the correct answer to this question is “it depends”. To know for sure, it’s best to check their official website or simply ask one of their customer service representatives.

Q: Are Stauer watches any good?
A:

Stauer is a watch brand established in 2001 by Michael Bisceglia, in an attempt to show the world that luxury timepieces don’t necessarily have to be expensive. He founded the Stauer brand on the premise that watches can look and feel luxurious, but they can also be affordable. Many Stauer watches feature intricate complications and thoroughly modern designs. They are one of the largest gemstone dealers in the world.

Most brands that make affordable watches will skim on the quality of the materials or will cut corners in the manufacturing process. Stauer buys gems in bulk and managed to control costs to produce decent timepieces that look great and behave well in the long term. Furthermore, they keep the manufacturing process mostly in-house, which allows them to reduce costs. Overall, these are decent watches, with reliable movements, that look and feel luxurious on your wrist.

Our Verdict

A watch is no longer an instrument that allows users to tell the correct time and date. Right now, it’s about status and fashion, which is why the visual appeal is important. However, not everyone can afford (or is willing to) shove a few hundred dollars on a timepiece.

So, if you’re looking for an affordable quality watch, that looks more expensive than it is, Stauer is the perfect brand for you. Its designs are impressive and some are even unique, which will give you the upper hand in a social situation.

If you feel the design is too good for the price, don’t worry – that’s the brand signature! Stauer is making every effort to keep the costs low without lowering the quality and craftsmanship.
