1. Garmin Vivomove 3 Men's Hybrid Smartwatch

Highlights

Vivomove 3 is a series of hybrid smartwatches that combines the style of an analog design with the technology of a smart device. This means you get to be notified about text messages and other events while also enjoying the soothing view of analog hands on your watch display.

In addition, people who like an elegant piece on their wrist will be happy to know that the black case is thin and slim. Also, the band is comfortable and can be easily changed due to the quick-release system. This means that you can buy one watch and several bands to make it look new and interesting for every occasion.

The display features a combination of analog and digital, with a hidden OLED touchscreen in the lower half of the screen. As such, the control of the information displayed is done via the touchscreen (there are no buttons on the side). Also, the touchscreen display is not visible at all times; only when you need it.

In terms of smart features, Vivomove 3 has a variety of health and wellness features, it can connect with the GPS on your smartphone (to track walks and more), and it can track your body’s energy levels.

The battery is estimated to last for about five days on one charge, but if you use it in watch mode, it will last for one week. Overall, Vivomove 3 is an elegant watch that looks analog but comes with a secret.

Why We Chose This

Garmin is well-known in the market of fitness-oriented wearable technology so there’s no reason to doubt their expertise. So, if you’re looking for a smartwatch that looks like a watch, this may be it.

2. Fossil Hybrid HR Men's Smartwatch

Highlights
Best Overall
Fossil - Hybrid HR

Known as the undercover smartwatch, Fossil HR is indeed a classic timepiece with impressively advanced features.

At first glance, it looks like a classic analog watch that most men wear on a daily basis. The large dial, integrated mechanical hands, and leather band (in tone with the dial) speak of an elegant watch using a classic system.

However, the black steel case covers a modern mechanism, guided by software and capable of connecting with a smartphone (works with both iPhone and Android). Underneath the analog hands lies a smart surface that displays information from various apps on your phone. Inside the case, there is a heart rate monitor and a system that keeps track of activity and sleeping patterns.

To create the idea of a classic watch, the display stays on at all times, but this doesn’t affect the life of the battery (up to 2+ weeks). This is possible because the display uses e-paper, a technology similar to the one used for the display of Kindle. In addition to being a low consumer, this display is visible under any lighting conditions. Since it doesn’t have backlighting, users have the option to double-tap the watch and four tiny lights will illuminate the display in the dark.

The watch has rapid charging (about 1h of charging to a full battery) but no touchscreen (everything is controlled using the side buttons). In addition, users can decide the function on each available button.

While it may not be a full smartwatch, Fossil HR does a great job. It comes with basic but useful features, it has a clean app, and it allows users to customize their experience.

Specifications

Material:
Leather Band, Stainless Steel Case, Mineral Crystal Lens
Size:
42mm
Weight:
2.54oz

Pros

  • Elegant & classic design
  • Smart features that work well
  • Built-in heart monitor and accelerometer
  • Comfortable leather strap
  • Impressive value for the money

Cons

  • No touchscreen or GPS
  • LED lighting is not uniform
  • There is some lag when refreshing the display

Why We Chose This

We consider Fossil HR as being the best hybrid watch because it blends the analog design with the smartwatch features very nicely. The surface used to display notifications and functions is large enough without being intrusive to the analog side of the display. Also, it has good battery life and an integrated heart monitor and accelerometer which prove useful in tracking fitness activity and sleep. Overall, it’s a nicely-executed hybrid with an elegant look!

3. Withings Steel HR Men's Hybrid Smartwatch

Highlights

Featuring advanced technology packed in an uncompromising design, the Steel HR hybrid is a beautiful timepiece! This model features a classic look, admired by anyone who understands elegance and style. However, owners can play with the aspect by swapping bands and enjoying even more compliments.

Under the pretty look, the watch is fitted with a heart rate monitor, an infrared sensor, a smart display, a high precision MEMS 3-axis accelerometer, and a powerful battery.

As a smartwatch, it tracks and delivers information about a user’s activity, general health, and sleep patterns. When used in workout mode, the watch can track up to 30+ activities such as swimming, jogging, walking, and more. In addition, when connected to the GPS module, it can create a map of your session following distance, elevation, and pace.

As an analog watch, the large black dial features a two hands movement and two complications. The complication at the top is the smart display (where you see the notifications and more) and the one at the bottom is the battery status. Also, the stainless steel bezel features markers for seconds.

The battery lasts for up to five days in workout mode (with smart features activated) and 25 days in watch mode. Lastly, the watch can connect with Alexa, which is a nice feature.

Specifications

Material:
Stainless Steel, Crystal Lens
Size:
36mm/40mm

Pros

  • The design is close to a traditional watch
  • Fast pairing and syncing with your phone & Alexa
  • Large face, with an easy to read dial
  • Heart rate monitor is accurate
  • Great battery life

Cons

  • The display for smart features is rather small
  • Not very large

Why We Chose This

The advantage of a hybrid smartwatch is that it looks like a classic timepiece. As such, the Steel HR from Withings does a fantastic job of concealing the fact that it has other skills besides telling time. In short, it’s a fitness watch that looks amazing on your wrist!

4. Fossil Grant Gen 2 Men's Hybrid Smartwatch

Highlights

Following the motto “looks like a watch, acts like a smartwatch”, Fossil Grant Gen 2 is a true beauty! The large stainless steel case with brushed and polished elements blends nicely with the leather strap (which you can change if it’s not to your liking).

The dial looks analog (it features a two-hands movement and one complication) and is very easy to read. There are large, black Roman numerals marking the hours and the outer rim is marked with Arabic numerals for the days of the month. Everything is highlighted by a beautifully crafted vanilla background.

Now, the watch uses the two main hands to indicate the time and notifications on your phone. However, there is a third hand (in the complication placed at the 6 o’clock position) that lets you know about your goal – this is a step counter that indicates if you are closer to reaching your goal.

The watch is powered by the Fossil App and works with iPhone and Android phones (Android 5.0+, iOS 10.0+ and above). Also, you don’t have to worry about charging – the easy-to-change coin cell battery lasts up to 12 months (depending on usage).

While there is no display to show messages, alerts, and other notifications, the watch has advanced elements. For instance, it keeps track of activity & sleep patterns by sending the data to the app on your phone. The app processes the data in stats and long-term progress views.

The watch uses a Bluetooth connection with an improved data transfer of 4.2 low energy. And, it uses a gentle vibration and hand movements to notify the user of the type of notification. In addition, the side buttons can be customized to control the music, ring the phone (Find my Phone feature), and more. Lastly, it automatically updates the date and time according to your location (especially useful if you travel a lot).

1. Fossil Virginia Women's Hybrid Smartwatch

Highlights

Designed for the modern and elegant woman, Virginia is a beautiful hybrid watch!

The all-silver design is visually attractive in itself, but the tiny diamond-like stones encrusted in some of the Roman numerals, the bezel, and even the bracelet really take the spotlight. They shine brightly in the light and attract everyone’s attention, which is why this watch is perfect for people who like to be noticed in social gatherings.

The face is a bit larger than with most watches for women, but the light vanilla dial makes it work. To support the analog look, there is a three-hands movement. The two main hands follow the time on big, silver Roman numerals. The third hand (which is smaller) is used to indicate your progress in reaching the daily goal for steps (set using the Fossil App on your phone). Also, the outer rim of the dial is marked with Arabic numerals for the day of the month.

The watch has a built-in accelerometer and activity tracker and connects to Android and iPhones using Bluetooth v4.2. The side buttons are customizable via the app, and you can assign them functions such as Find My Phone (the phone will ring even if it’s set on vibrate), camera shutter control, or music control.

To indicate notifications (such as alarm, incoming call, text message) the watch uses hand movements and gentle vibration. However, in order to receive these, the watch needs to be connected with the Fossil App.

Specifications

Material:
Stainless Steel, Mineral Crystal Window
Size:
36mm
Weight:
8.82oz

Pros

  • Amazing design that fits both casual and elegant settings
  • A large face that’s easy to read

  • It takes a bit to understand how the connection with the app works
  • No LCD/OLED screen to indicate notifications or texts

Why We Chose This

If you’re looking for an elegant watch that attracts everyone’s eye, Virginia is definitely the right choice! While the face is a bit larger than with most women’s designs, it blends well in the design and provides users with an easy-to-understand and use visual interface. Since it is a Fossil hybrid, we can call this one an analog smartwatch - the face doesn’t have any display to showcase notifications. Overall, it’s a gorgeous watch with impressive features.

2. Skagen Women's Hald Hybrid Smartwatch

Highlights

This timepiece is a beautiful combination of modern and classic – a watch that features the classic analog dial on the outside but hides a range of smart features inside. For instance, underneath the analog dial, there is an activity tracking module, automatic time and date adjustment, and the possibility to connect it with a smart device via Bluetooth. In addition, the watch can receive notifications from your phone (based on pre-set filters) and will discreetly let you know when an email, message, or phone call needs your attention.

The watch can be paired with the Skagen app to track your fitness performance, sleep habits, and even burnt calories. The app will always try to sync with the watch, but you shouldn’t worry about battery life – it doesn’t go as fast as it would with a regular smartwatch.

As such, you can wear it as a luxurious classic design and enjoy the benefits of a smartwatch. The rose gold stainless steel case, the mineral crystal lens, the stylized rose gold hour markers and hands and the classic leather band will be highly admired by anyone around.

Hybrid Smartwatch Buying Guide

What Is a Hybrid Smartwatch?

In short, a hybrid timepiece is a smartwatch that looks like a watch. Some models combine an analog dial with a digital one (with or without a touchscreen), but there are hybrid watches that don’t have any type of digital screen.

Overall, a hybrid design looks and feels like a regular watch but has advanced features usually found in a smart device.

Design & Style

The best hybrid products focus heavily on design and style, trying to combine the beauty of an analog device with the brains of a smart one. Given the fact that it combines two totally different technologies, a hybrid is more like a minimalist smartwatch, with basic features for notifications and some activity-tracking functions.

The hybrid market is for those people who want a watch that looks amazing without giving up on the comforts of the modern world.

Features

The most popular features are the ones related to notifications, fitness, and general health. As such, the best hybrid smartwatches come with an integrated heart monitor, an electronic display for notifications, and a built-in activity tracker. They also support Bluetooth connectivity, different time zones, and display the time in analog format.
