Watch for Crossfit Buying Guide

Brands

There are a lot of options when looking for the best CrossFit watch, and there are numerous brands that are producing different watches that can work really well for your needs.

The following brands are some of the best and most known out there.

Apple

Apple is one of the most famous tech brands, and its smartwatches are well-known for their sleek designs and impressive array of features.

Choosing an Apple watch can be a good idea if you already own other Apple products because you would have the advantage of already being familiar with their function and of having other compatible products.

Fitbit

Fitbit is another well-known brand of smartwatches, with a lower range of price points that can be perfect for someone who’s looking for a well-performing smartwatch, but with a lower budget.

Just like Apple, Fitbit watches track your daily activities, steps, and sleep schedule: perfect for tracking your workouts and adjusting them as you go.

Garmin

Garmin watches are known for their fitness features, their reliability, and the accurate tracking of activities and workouts.

The price range can vary a lot between models, but they’re usually a bit more on the high end. We’ve managed to find some of the more affordable options for women in our guide on the best garmin women’s watches

Garmin watches track steps, sleep, and heart rate, and they all come with long battery life and a built-in GPS.

Features

Every digital watch has unique and different features, but if you’re looking for the best smartwatch for CrossFit, here are the most important features you’ll have to look for.

Heart Rate Monitor

The heart rate monitor is a very convenient feature for a CrossFit fitness tracker watch: you might want to check your heart rate regularly while doing your workout, to improve your athletic performance, or to manage your stress levels.

A few fitness smartwatches will even let you monitor how much it takes your heart to reach the resting rate after a workout.

Sleep Tracking

Another interesting feature is the sleep tracker that helps your monitor the level of sleep you got, how long was your sleep phase, when you woke up, and the number of times your sleep was interrupted during the night.

Some watches can also track your sleep quality, using a sensor that records minor variations in your heart rate and body movements.

Activity Tracker

Activity tracking is one of the features most people want in their smartwatch: it helps you keep track of your movements during the day, your steps, and your fitness activities.

It’s a great instrument to improve your daily workouts, and in many cases, it can also give you a boost of motivation to keep training every day.

Burned Calories Tracker

Many fitness smartwatches also offer a burned calories tracker, which can be a really useful feature if you’re looking to lose some weight.

The calorie tracker usually provides live data, thanks to the activity tracker and to your health data, and can also give you a custom estimate of how many calories you should aim to burn, based on traits like weight, gender, age, and height.

Counts Steps

As previously mentioned, a fitness smartwatch can usually keep track of your steps during the day.

Thanks to the 3-axis accelerometer, the tracker is able to continuously sense the movements of the body and to recognize which kind of movement you’re doing.

Fitness Tracker

Many smartwatches have, in addition to the already mentioned activity tracker, a number of different exercises that they can automatically track: the activities range from running to walking, from cycling to swimming.

There are also additional apps that can be installed, to track even more activities.

Strength Training Tracker

If the kind of training you’re doing is focused more on strength, you might want a feature able to track the number of reps you’re lifting and the type of lift you’re doing.

Many smartwatches have this useful Strength Training Tracker feature if that’s what you’re looking for.

Smart Notifications

A lot of different smartwatches can pair with your phone devices and display notifications, such as emails, text messages, and social network notifications.

The number of things you can do from your smartwatch depends mainly on what model you choose, but the useful thing to remember is that if your smartwatch is Bluetooth only, you will still have to keep your phone close.

If your smartwatch has GPS, it’ll work anywhere.

GPS

Speaking of GPS, this is another useful feature to have on your watch.

A built-in GPS can help you track your fitness activity by mapping your exercise route and, as stated before, means that you can easily leave your phone at home when you’re doing your workout.

Water Resistance

Water resistance can be a useful feature in any CrossFit fitness tracker watch, even if you don’t necessarily intend to go swimming with it.

Having a water-resistant watch means that you can wear it anywhere without having to fear outdoor activities where it might get wet, for example in the rain.

It can also mean that you can shower without taking it off!

Battery Life

Battery life is one of the most important factors to consider if you’re looking to buy the best smartwatch for CrossFit.

Obviously, the more functions you use at once, the more the battery will run down.

There are a lot of watches on the market that have a long battery life, but only if you use only a few of their features.

If battery life is your biggest concern, you can easily find a good deal of smartwatches with lasting battery life and an adequate number of features at the same time.

Our Verdict

In our search for the best CrossFit watch, we found the Apple Watch Series 6 to be the best for higher budgets, thanks to its ability to track all aspects of your health and activities.

Another excellent choice is the Fitbit Versa 3, if you want to spend less, but still choose a multifunction smartwatch that can give you everything you need: from tracking workouts to taking your calls directly from your watch.

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced alternative, you can either go for the Fitbit Versa Lite or the Polar Ignite.
