Titanium Watch Buying Guide

Titanium Vs Stainless Steel Watch

Another popular watch material is stainless steel, and in comparison, titanium has a few advantages.

First, as mentioned, titanium is strong and durable. For most watch aficionados, stainless steel may be strong enough. But since titanium is up to three times stronger, if you want that added security, then titanium may be your winner.

Stainless steel is also durable, but it’s heavy compared to titanium. If that’s an issue for you, particularly if you want a style that’s bulky or large, titanium may be a better choice. But stainless steel does tend to be shinier than the matte finish of titanium, so that’s a factor when it comes to personal taste.

Stainless steel sometimes contains nickel, which is a common allergen. People who are allergic to nickel would be wise to stay away from stainless steel.

So if you want the stylish good looks of a stainless steel watch, without those few disadvantages, a titanium watch might be a better choice.

Titanium Sport Watches

The reason you’re buying a watch may also be a factor. Titanium is becoming more popular as a sports watch, for many of the reasons cited above. For one, titanium is durable. If you’re hiking often, for instance, you may want that extra security that comes with the strength of a titanium sport watch and strap.

The same is true of titanium dive watches, becoming a popular choice because titanium is durable and also highly corrosion resistant, including the ability to resist salt water corrosion. Check the water resistance of the titanium divers watch you’re considering.

The fact that titanium is also lightweight makes titanium watches favored by all kinds of athletes, outdoorsmen and sportsmen.

Titanium Pocket Watches

The pocket watch is seeing a resurgence in popularity, and titanium is perfectly suited for this timepiece.

After all, we all wear smartphones and often choose smartwatches for fitness trackers to wear on our wrists. So the pocket watch is favored by some who want a traditional look of a different era, along with the fact it takes a deliberate step to see the time, preventing one from constantly glancing at their wrist.

If you want a change from something on your wrist that takes calls, notifies you of texts and emails, and even warns you of an impending storm, perhaps you want a traditional pocket watch.

Among pocket watches, there’s the open-faced style and the hunter-case, in which the face has a cover that’s opened by a spring. Titanium, being durable and lightweight, is the ideal material for these retro timepieces.

Titanium Watch Care

Titanium watches don’t require any special care, but they require care. It’s best to wash them on a regular basis, and particularly after you use them for an activity like diving (remove the salt water) or other type of exercise (remove the sweat, dirt and more).

Assuming your watch is waterproof, you can wash it with water. You can also remove the band if you want to soak it in water with gentle dish soap, and brush the band with a gentle toothbrush if dirt has gathered in the links.

Then simply rinse and dry, and re-attach it to the watch. Regularly wiping the watch face with a soft cloth is a good way to keep it clean.

So let’s look at some of the top titanium watches.
